Lily King, Carnival Queen 2017

The Carnival family disco was a rounding success, many thanks to all who attended. Congratulations to Lilly King who is our new Carnival Queen and Chloe Norris her deputy. The attendants are Eloisa Mae Smith, Cameron Bell, Zoe Brunton and Mya Harris-Blucher.

Some photos of the queen and attendants.

The new committee are keen to revive some of Carnival’s lost traditions. The origins of the carnival in the 19th century were in a village sports day and the 1939 Carnival featured a Tug of War, 6-a-side football, bowling for a pig and Aunt Sally! So this year we are presenting Rope Wars, a knockout Tug of War competition on the field on Carnival day, Saturday 1st July 2017. Do you think your Club/Group/Business or Band can beat the rest of the village? Get involved and sign up your team of 8. Contact enquiries@eynshamcarnival.com for more info and to register.

carnival KING for a Day?

Now in it’s 71st year, Eynsham Carnival is for the first time ever calling for boys who’d like to be Carnival King or an attendant! Traditionally Eynsham has a Carnival Queen and attendants who lead the parade and give out the prizes for the shirt race, floats and fancy dress.

In a break with tradition the organising committee wondered if Eynsham needed a Carnival King and male attendants as well. It proved a hot topic online so the children at Eynsham primary were consulted and the response was clear: let boys have a go too! Therefore this year boys are invited to apply too and make history in the process as the Carnival is brought hurtling into the 21st century.

The Carnival royalty, King and/or Queen and male or female attendants, will be chosen at the popular Eynsham Carnival Family Disco held at Eynsham Village Hall at 6.30pm on 18th March. Candidates are selected by independent judges, and there is no need to parade to enter the competition

There are 3 categories for candidates: male or female attendants aged 6-9 and 10-14, King or Queen aged 14+.

No need to apply in advance, just turn up on the day. Entry is £1 per person. Free entry for Royalty candidates. 6.30-9pm with a licensed bar.
